TETHERED BIOSENSOR SYSTEMS FOR MICE

Pinnacle’s tethered 8400 EEG/EMG MOUSE SYSTEM provides researchers the ability to configure and record four channels of EEG, EMG and biosensor data simultaneously. The combined system creates an exciting and powerful tool to obtain changes in neurocompound concentration in the brains of freely moving mice during sleep, seizure, and behavioral studies.

The tethered system employs a HEAD MOUNTED PREAMPLIFIER (#8406) that amplifies and filters biopotential signals and applies a bias across biosensors. Signals are then passed through the low torque MOUSE COMMUTATOR (#8408) to the 8401 Data Conditioning and Acquisition System (DCAS) for final stage conditioning and filtering. The 8401 DCAS interfaces with Pinnacle’s free acquisition software on a Windows based PC via USB.

The flexibility of the 8400 system allows user to change channel configurations by the simple swapping of preamplifiers (i.e. 2EEG/1EMG/1Biosensor for 1 EEG/1EMG/2Biosensors). Standard configurations are available for purchase (see below).

SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Stereotaxically placed guide cannulas allow for insertion of biosensor(s) post-surgery. Pinnacle provides pre-fabricated head-mounts and recording electrodes for fast reproducible surgeries.

Headmounted 100X preamplifiers are the key to quality artifact-free data and house connections dock(s) for biosensor(s). Connections are made via friction fitting pins.

Low-torque commutators allow for unencumbered freedom of movement.

The 8401 DCAS performs secondary amplification filtering & conditioning; interfacing with a PC via USB.

An optimal, SYNCHRONIZED VIDEO SYSTEM is available to enable simultaneous correlation of behavioral and biosensor recordings.

Pinnacle’s SIRENIA™ acquisition & review software is FREE of charge. Advanced comprehensive analysis packages will be available for purchase in the future. Data can be exported as .EDF format.

  • Pinnacle offers 0.10” screws with wire leads attached for use with the 8-pin connector (#8415).


    0.10” stainless steel bone screws to act as an anchor for the 8402 head mounts and guide cannula(s). It is recommended to utilize 1-2 screws (depending on surgery type) to securely affix the head mount and guide cannula(s).


    Prefabricated EEG/EMG/Bio head mounts (#8402) come with EMG wires attached and act as a platform to connect cortical EEG electrodes. Head mounts are affixed to the skull via dental acrylic and weigh approximately 0.2 grams.


    Stereotaxically placed guide cannulas allow for insertion of biosensors post-surgery. For single or dual biosensor implantations in mice the BASi mouse guide cannula (#7032) is recommended for use. The 7032 guide cannula shaft is 5 mm in length and approximately 600 M in diameter. The smaller size of the cannula allows for contralateral implantation of biosensors at a minimum distance of approximately 3.2 mm Pinnacle’s 7004 standard biosensor electrodes are compatible with the BASi mouse guide cannula. Guide cannulas are not reusable.

    A 6-PIN connector (#8235-SM) is used in place of the pre-fabricated headmount for 3 EEG recordings. The pins are bent at a 90o angle for accessible soldering. Pinnacle’s 0.10” screws with wire lead (#8403) or depth electrodes can be wired to the 6-PIN connector.
