Pinnacle’s wireless biosensor system employs our signature “Rat Hat” system which is used to house the electronics, battery, guide cannula and biosensor. The bottom portion of the “Rat Hat” (#8108-S1) is affixed to the skull via anchor screws and dental acrylic. A rectangular 13 mm X 9 mm opening surrounds the guide cannula(s). An alternative “Rat Hat” bottom (#8108-R1) with a 9 mm diameter round opening is available as well. Bottoms are not reusable.

The top portion of the “Rat Hat” (#8107-S1) encloses and protects the system. A single hex screw secures the hat and can be tightened during conscious applications.

Pinnacle offers 1/8” stainless steel bone screws to act as anchors for the “Rat Hat” system. It is recommended to utilize three screws to securely affix the “Rat Hat” bottom and guide cannula(s).

Coin cell (3V) volt batteries power the wireless potentiostat. Battery life span is estimated at 72 hrs when used continuously.

Stereotaxically placed guide cannulas allow for insertion of biosensors post-surgery. For single biosensor implantations in rats the BASi rat guide cannula (#7030) is recommended for use. The 7030 guide cannula shaft is 10mm in length and approximately 560 uM in diameter. Pinnacle’s 7002 standard biosensor electrodes are compatible with the BASi rat guide cannula. Guide cannulas are not reusable.

Stereotaxically placed guide cannulas allow for insertion of biosensors post-surgery. For dual biosensor implantations in rats the BASi mouse guide cannula (#7032) is recommended for use. The 7032 guide cannula shaft is 5 mm in length and approximately 600 uM in diameter. The smaller size of the cannula allows for contralateral implantation of biosensors at a minimum distance of approximately 3.2 mm Pinnacle’s 7004 standard biosensor electrodes are compatible with the BASi mouse guide cannula. Guide cannulas are not reusable.
