MEET THE OFFICERS
Donna Johnson, Founder, has more than 30 years experience in applied research and engineering projects. Before opening Pinnacle in 1995, she held positions as Director of Engineering & Research with several small businesses and worked for various federal and state organizations, including the U.S. House of Representatives, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Environmental Protection Agency, and University of Connecticut. She has a B.S. and M.S. in botany from the University of Rhode Island and studied for her Ph.D. in oceanography at the University of Connecticut. David Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, oversees all technical operations at Pinnacle. He received his M.S. in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Arizona State University, where he researched solid state physics and, in particular, characterization of electrical instabilities induced by deep-level impurities in semi-insulating gallium arsenide. Since then he has managed development projects in both academic and industrial settings, including as a tenured professor at Kettering University and as a senior process engineer for Microchip Technology. He joined Pinnacle in 1996 and has guided numerous Pinnacle projects from the idea stage to the development and distribution of commercial products.
RECOGNITION
In 1998, Pinnacle Technology received the Tibbetts Award from the Small Business Administration. The SBA recognizes companies, organizations and individuals who exemplify the spirit and intent of the SBIR/STTR programs. These awards not only recognize successes but help document the economic, technical, and societal benefits from SBIR/STTR funding.
In 2019, Pinnacle Technology won the Governor's Exporter of the Year award. The award program recognizes Kansas companies committed to expanding sales in international markets and showcases those exporters to other Kansas companies seeking similar success.
Pinnacle Technology was named as one of the 50 most innovative companies across the country by the NIH Small Business Success Stories program, regarding its contributions to innovative brain disorder research. This award not only aids and accelerates our development of new hardware and products; additionally its monetary value allows us to meaningfully collaborate with universities across the country.
Pinnacle Technology was named as a Small Business Success Story by the Department of Defense under their SBIR regarding simplifying the maintenance of F-35 flight simulators. Typically, flight simulators have an enormous tangle of connecting cable bundles hidden somewhere behind the cockpit, turning simple maintenance complex. CTO, David Johnson came up with a solution that simplified the tangled mess of wires, making them look more like a computer network. Instead of one computer and a massive wire network, they were distributed to smaller computers to diffuse the effort.
Pinnacle Technology were honored by the 2021 National Small Business Exporter Summit as an outstanding exporter. The honorees have been selected to share their export story and highlight "best practice" tips, processes, strategies, and/or lessons learned. These sessions form the foundation of the National Small Business Exporters Summit.
